Art Brusila, 36th Bomb Squadron Pilot
Hello Friends,
Sad news to report that Art Brusila has died. Just today I received a note from his daughter Kristin that Art passed away on June 2nd. She says: ‘He will have a Military Memorial service in July at Fort Indian Town Gap in PA’. She goes on and says: ‘We had just celebrated his 96th year on May 10th. Up until the summer of his 95th year, he was managing living in his own home. It got to the point that he needed help with mobility, so he moved into Assisted Living. It was quite a downward spiral over the past year.’
So now another Gremlin has taken his final flight ‘to join that heroic band of airmen who have gone before’.
Yes, may he rest in Peace. Our lives are richer for our paths having crossed.
Along with Gordon Caulkins, his Tail Gunner who I believe is still around; and Des and Ernie Lamson, he attended the Memorial Ceremony in May 2011 to honor those of Lt. McCarthy’s crew killed in the crash of the ‘Beast of Bourbon’ on February 19, 1945, seen here:
