Volume 2, Part 4, Page 201 - STRIKE, John William - Private, No 15646, 9th (Service) Battalion, The Royal Sussex Regiment

Son of Arthur Strike, of The Chequers, Hindolvestone, Journeyman Gardiner, by his wife, Sarah, dau. of W. Walton; born Hindolvestone, co. Norfolk, 27th Sept, 1891; educated there; on the outbreak of war volunteered for active service and enlisted in The Kings Royal Rifle Corps, 7th Sept. 1914; was discharged a month later as medically unfit; rejoined the 1st Battn. The Hertfordshire Regt. in May 1915; served with The Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders fro July 1916, being transferred to the 13th Battn. The Sussex Regt.; was wounded at Thiepval the following Oct. and invalided home; rejoined his Regiment 29th Dec, when he was transferred to the 9th Battn.; was again wounded at Vimy Ridge, 14th April and sent to hospital in France, and was killed in action near Gouzeacourt 29th Sept, 1917. Buried in Hargicourt British Cemetery. Unm
