Dedicated to the Memory
Of both American and British airmen killed close to this spot as a result of a mid air
collision between a USAAF 8th AF, Flying Fortress of the 305th BG
and an RAF Beaufighter on the night of 31st August 1943
Eight American crewman plus an RAF pilot observer aboard 'Eager Eagle' were killed
with two waist gunners parachuting to safety. Both pilot and observer aboard the
Beaufighter crashed on farmland east of this sport and also lost their lives
