The "Heart" of the Jersey Memorial Stone Guillemont
The Jersey Contingent assembled in this Royal Square on 2nd March 1913 before deserting their island to fight in the Great War
Like thousands of islanders who answered their nation's call between 1914 and 1918 they served with distinction and at enormous cost
This stone is the heart of a large standing stone at Guillemont, France where in September 1916 at the Battle of the Somme the Jersey Contingent suffered its heaviest losses
From there to hear, from then to now, it represents an unshakeable bond between grateful island and proudly remembered islanders
Quis separabit - who will seperate us?
