78th Fighter Group
Based at Duxford, the group participated in the Battle of the Bulge and supported the airborne assault across the Rhine.
91st Bombardment Group
Based at Basingbourn, Cambridgeshire the group “attacked communications near the Battle of the Bulge and assisted the push across the Rhine by striking airfields, bridges and railroads near the frontlines in the spring of 1945”.
303rd Bombardment Group
Based at Molesworth, Cambridgeshire, the group “struck airfields, oil depots, and other targets during the Battle of the Bulge. Bombed military installations in the Wesel area to aid the Allied assault across the Rhine”
339th Fighter Group
Based at Fowlmere, Cambridgeshire the group “Escorted bombers to, and flew patrols over the battle area during the German counterattack in the Ardennes Battle of the Bulge. Provided area patrols during the assault across the Rhine”.
379th Bombardment Group
Based at Kimbolton the group “Attacked German communications and fortifications during the Battle of the Bulge.” Also assisted in the assault across the Rhine by bombing bridges \ viaducts.
457th Bombardment Group
Based at Glatton assisted in the Battle of the Bulge and assault over the Rhine.
482nd Bombardment Group
Based in Alconbury, this was a pathfinder force exploring new navigational techniques including radar. With their specifically adapted aircraft they could indicate targets which would normally be obscured by the weather. With many specialised squadron attachments this would lead them into various campaigns across Europe including involvement with Ardennes-Alsace campaign.
